New Project | Proper Charm
When it comes to creating a space that balances sophistication with a playful twist, this project is a perfect example. From thoughtful custom cabinetry to a stunning dry bar slab, every element of this remodel was carefully considered. The goal? To refresh an existing home by blending its original charm with updated, elegant details.
To introduce the project, we asked designer Peyton Nease a few questions about the space:
Tell us about the process of this project!
The main objective of this project was to introduce elevated yet playful touches to an existing home. As it was a remodel, we wanted to retain some of the original elements while infusing new, exciting features. The design involved a full gut renovation for the main areas, while the bathrooms received a fresh look with new backsplashes and flooring. Unique cabinetry and custom design details became a focal point, allowing the space to feel bespoke and tailored to the client's vision.
What was the inspiration for this space and the title “Proper Charm”?
The inspiration behind this project was the desire to blend the cozy, rustic vibes of the Park City ski slopes with the chic, refined feel of New York City lofts. The result was a sophisticated and elegant home that overlooks the stunning Deer Valley slopes. The title "Proper Charm" perfectly encapsulates the balance between the elevated and the charming design elements that defined the project.
How did you cater this design for the client?
This project was for a client who has a deep love for hosting family and friends. Practicality and functionality were essential, but never at the cost of the design aesthetic. She had a particular fondness for brass elements, playful colors, and the use of mixed patterns, making the space both vibrant and welcoming.
So much of this remodel features elements that were customized for the client. What were some of your favorite custom elements?
Custom cabinetry played a significant role in the design of this home. Collaborating with Drycreek, we brought our vision to life through two-tone cabinets, reeded textures, and integrated handles that added a unique touch to the space. One of the most exciting custom features was the metal hood with an aged brass finish. We carefully curated the patina, going through multiple samples until we achieved the perfect look.
What turned out to be your favorite part of the remodels finished result?
One of the standout features of this remodel is the breathtaking dry bar slab. The movement in the stone is simply mesmerizing, and its tone ties the entire space together. This piece is truly a showstopper and a favorite element within the home.
Tell us more about the tile selections:
For this project, most of the tile was sourced from Modern Tile, a favorite showroom of mine in Salt Lake City. We wanted to incorporate a wide array of colors while keeping the palette neutral enough to complement the existing tile in the home. The kitchen backsplash, with its glossy finish, adds depth and dimension to the space, and it turned out beautifully.
