New Project | Sand and Snow
Introducing our newest project - Sand and Snow. Boasting an abundance of Ann Sacks tile, this home intricately weaves the unique story of clients who effortlessly navigate between Utah and the vibrant allure of California. Crafted in collaboration with Stephanie Hunt of Flair Hunter, the design effortlessly captures a harmonious blend of identity and aesthetic appeal.
To introduce the project, we asked designer Melissa Crotty a few questions about the home:
What was the inspiration for this space?
The client's main residence is in California and we wanted some of that California style to translate into this home in the mountains. The client’s personal style and their experiences/interests very much shine through in this design.
Tell us briefly about the client and the project process:
One of the clients is a retired firefighter, with a flair for photography, which brought a ton of cool art placements and art inspiration into the home. The clients were really involved in the overall process which made the whole experience fun. Collaborating with Stephanie Hunt is always a treat as well!
What were some of the custom items in this space?
The living room fireplace was a favorite of the custom projects in this home. The clients also wanted to draw inspiration from industrial design vs typical mountain rustic. That’s where the soft industrial feel of the fireplace came from. With its soft curved edges, each piece of the fireplace was welded and assembled one by one. Additionally, it’s a functional fireplace which helps in heating the home.
Tell us about the tile in this project:
A lot of the tile in this home is from one of our favorite partners, Ann Sacks. I especially love the tile in the primary bath. The whole room feels organic and elevated, all while highlighting the unexpected and bold. The tile in this home really went a step further thanks to the clients desire to embrace texture in tile selections.
What was your favorite part of the house?
My favorite room is the bunk bathroom! The goal was to create a room that was playful but not juvenile thanks to the color palette and tumbled stones.
Finally, what materials were used on the exterior?
Natural stone + barn wood is such an amazing combination! Barn wood can feel like too much on certain exteriors, but in this application it feels like it blends in/is one with the outdoors.
